South Africa Travel

At the Cradle of Humankind, located just outside of Johannesburg, South Africa, visitors can see fossils of some of our species' earliest ancestors.

Comprised of a visitors center and a series of caves, this world-famous attraction gives guests a look into how the human species has evolved. Covering over 47,000 hectares of land, there are 13 hominid fossil sites which provide some of the best evidence of human origins ever discovered.

The Sterkfontein Caves are the site of these exciting finds where visitors on a South African vacation can take guided tours through the underground formation. Guests will learn all about the 2.1 million-year-old skull found and the 3 million-year-old skeleton also discovered here.

At the Maropeng Visitor Centre, travelers take an underground boat ride which takes adventurers on a journey through time. Beginning with the present, the boat trip traces the stages of creation on Earth. Visitors will feel what it was like to exist during the ice age and even when the earth's crust was formed. At the end of the ride, a "black hole" simulator explains how our planet materialized.

In addition to the boat ride, many self-interactive exhibits occupy a large museum.

South Africa Offers Variety

Posted on Thursday, March 25, 2010

When you consider the range of experiences present in South Africa, it sees almost impossible that a single place could offer such variety.  How many countries can claim to have lions, penguins and dolphins all living within their borders?  How many can offer safaris and surfing as easily as offering wine tasting and art galleries?  South Africa somehow manages to do all this and more and blends the best of African and European influences.

Capetown South Africa

Posted on Friday, October 16, 2009

Capetown, South Africa is getting ready for the 2010 World Cup. Shanties visible from the highway into town from the airport are being torn down, their residents being moved into nicer housing, all subsidized by the government. South African Airways has non stop service from JFK airport in New York and consolidation of international and domestic flights in Tambo Terminal B in Johannesburg result in a midafternoon arrival in Capetown with less time enroute and in airports.

New hotels have opened including the Cape Royale Suite and Capetown One&Only, both within walking distance of the new soccer stadium currently under construction. The Cape Royale Suite will have two concierges on duty full time in high season. The attention to detail by the concierge staff will carry through to other staff members, making the service exceptional. The property has a small spa and striking rooftop pool with views of Signal Hill, the waterfront and the new stadium. It’s an easy 15-minute walk from the hotel to the Victoria and Albert waterfront.

The Capetown One&Only is magnificent. The Spa is outfitted with a hot water pool and high pressure goose-neck jets. The interior views are built around an Island where the pool and spa are located.

Capetown is sprucing up in all directions for this 2010 event.
