Day 4: Lake Manyara National ParkGo to the head of the class today when you meet Maasai children at a local primary school sponsored by donations from Tauck; continue on to Lake Manyara National Park, a bird watcher’s delight for its pink flamingos, great birds of prey, and some 300 species of migratory birds. Lunch at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge, set on an escarpment overlooking the park, then travel to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home to Ngorongoro Crater, a wildlife mecca. Your lodge is built on the dormant volcano’s rim, with stunning views of the “lost world” below.

Day 6: Early Man at Olduvai Gorge & a Maasai VillageOver fifty years ago, famed archaeologists Louis and Mary Leakey discovered fossilized remains of some of the earliest humans ever found – 1.8 million years old – at Olduvai Gorge. Learn more about the site’s important architectural digs on a docent-led tour, before visiting a Maasai village. Then set off for the Serengeti over unpaved roads. You’ll have outstanding opportunities for wildlife viewing en route to your safari lodge.
