Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa - over 19,340 ft. high. Test your stamina and endurance against one of the highest mountains in the world. There are a variety of climb routes to reach the snow capped summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Because of its relatively gentle slope, even inexperienced climbers can climb Kilimanjaro, but is is hard (but rewarding) work. Whether you are a novice or veteran, the extreme altitude requires preparation from all participants and a reasonable level of personal fitness. You should always check with your physician first prior to planning this type of trip. Traveling with a tour guided is strongly suggested as they can be extremely helpful if you feel sick or get hurt.
Marangu Route: This is the most popular, easiest and least expensive route to Uhuru Peak It takes 5 or 6 days. Hut accommodations are normally used versus tents on the other routes.
Machame Route: Many feel this is the most scenic route. It is more physically challenging than the Marangu. Accommodations are in tents and sleeping bags.
Lemosho Route: This is a remote, unspoiled route. The forest is rich in game animals. This route takes 7 to 8 days.
Shira Route: Game is often sited on this route as well. See magnificent views of Mt Meru and the Great Rift Valley. Much of the ascend is by vehicle, after which you can get to the peak via Western Breach.
Rongai Route: This is also known as Naro Moru. This area is known for its large caves. You can only use this route to go up the mountain - the descend must be the Marangu route.
